So teaching in a K-12 school I wanted to try and get as many people active outside of school as well as in school. Now opportunities to take part in sport outside of school here is limited, so trying to provide as many opportunities for my students is key for my role.  Now I like to run, and had tried the app below for fun recently, but I wanted my students and staff to log their walking, running, cycling and swimming.

After some discussion with @mrrobbo about one of his projects, I decided to set up an account with the Active Globe Website ( Here as an admin you can set a class goal in which all your students data will help to achieve a set distance. The individual students will also set their own goal in their own profile. Then every time they exercise and log their events it will move their position closer to their real world target. Watch the video on this link:

Now the students receive a certificate once they have completed certain distances. I decided to challenge the students to add some healthy competition and see how many students/teachers would log their exercise.  As a school we started about 2/3 weeks ago and I set them a target to try and get across the country to the other side to where the other schools in the district are, and we are set to complete in the space of 4 weeks. So the next target place may have to be a bit further, so it take a little longer :D.

Now I would like more students or staff to take part so I have set up a page to crowd source some new pedometers for the school on @mrrobbo new website, so I have put together this project (

So how do you monitor your students activity outside of the classroom?

Do your students have any motivation to take participate in exercise/activities once leaving the gym doors?

How do you promote global citizenship and get students to learn about other countries/cultures?
