I was looking for ways to create QR codes using Google sheets and came across this article by Tammy Worchester. I started to have a play around with the spreadsheet and came up with a workflow that you could use for taking attendance for class or voting on a piece of work, there is a host of uses this workflow could be used for.
The magic formula to create QR codes in your Google Sheet is:

Let me know in the comments how you could use it in your classes.
What you will need is:
- A Google Apps ID
- Copy of this worksheet
- And a Google Form – For a Copy of the one in the video click here
- To view the attendance sheet click here

Hi, Adam.
What would prevent a student from snapping a QR code for attendance for a friend who was late or skipping class? Is there a fail-safe with the QR code? Is there a way that the QR code registers the phone being used?
Thanks.
hmmm that is a tough one…..maybe put a password on the form ? Change it week on week or lesson on lesson ? If you had a sign in sheet, I suppose the same could still happen. Maybe do a head count and compare the two?
Hi Adam,
I am looking for ways that I can track attendance for a jobs program I have at my school – what I’d like to do is assign a qr code to each student and have them use the code to record when they are present for their job assignment (schoolwide program, 90ish students to track)…wondering if I could make this system work. Your thoughts??
Thanks,
Kim
