So I am grateful to be teaching at my current school, I have now been here for a month and so far I love it. It is very different to the busy nightlife of Shanghai, but with this change, it allows me to concentrate on my teaching, and reflect a lot more. Hence, starting this blog.
In previous roles, I have had the opportunity to do some Team teaching, though felt one person would always lead and take over the lesson. For me the majority of my lessons here, we team teach, and so far it has gone well! We try to take different bits of the lessons and bounce off one another. I do have to say you have to be able to get along with the other person and have some chemistry to be able to get it to work. I do know Mike McMillen (@PEwithMike) is looking into team teaching for his masters and going to enjoy chatting to him about this, and how he does it at his school. Anybody else team teaches their PE lessons? How do you work it? Is it successful? or not? Interested to know how it works in other places.
So for the last two weeks, we have been looking at handball in MS/HS lessons. Within the second week, we decided to give the students different roles. Nothing new here in the terms of PE, but do not think it had been utilised that much here. It was great to see the learners take on these roles and incorporate technology, which would aid in the learning. This year we having a push on reflection within lessons, and by enabling to see different points of views can aid this. We decided to use the Go-Pro camera to show the learners different points of view, and talk about gameplay and decision making in a game. Really excited to push on with this and question students more and reflect more upon performances in lessons. Hopefully, by the time I write my next blog post my new TV will be up in the gym.
Here is some footage from lessons in the last week:
Glad to see you finally blogging.
Reflection plays a key role in learning as it provides an opportunity for learners to organise the information and make connections with other skills or concepts, which can deepen their understanding. Hope it continues to go well.
